Dr Ruth Ashbee holds a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology, a PhD in Microbiology/Immunology; she is a Fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (FECMM) and a UK HCPC registered Clinical Scientist (CS00067).  Empeiros Ltd was establised by Ruth in 2022 after a varied career in academia, the NHS, her own previous consultancy business and some time in the pharmaceutical industry.  She is passionate about mycology - teaching it to others, providing advice and insight into clinical and laboratory aspects or advising the pharmaceutical industry about antifungals and invasive fungal disease.  She has recently been a member of the working group which has published the Bristish Society of Medical Mycology (BSMM) best practice recommendations on diagnosis of serious fungal diseases and she currently chairs the BSMM working group updating their guidelines on therapeutic drug monitoring of antifungals.
